Go-Go Gadget Legs!!!

So, I flew back from Turkey early hours of last Saturday morning and after ZERO training and a lot of boozing and eating, I did the 10k heroes run on Sunday! I am still aching a bit.

I learned that you CANNOT run that far if you don’t train. But I got a medal!! My first EVER medal!

Unless you can’t tell, I’m on holiday in a place called Dalyan in Turkey. It’s hot. The villa is fabulous and courtesy of my beau’s parents. We were invited to join them for Pappa Smith’s 60th birthday and retirement celebrations. I feel very lucky to be here! After a long, very cold, bleak winter in England, it’s WONDERFUL to be basking by the pool or on a boat, in the baking hot sunshine, sipping cold beers and indulging in too much food! I don’t want to go back to England right now!

It’s almost April!! EEK

I’ve started training for the 10k run I’ve entered. 

I’ve got a Nike app on my iPhone to keep track of distance and times and for a novice runner, I’ve found that it’s a good motivational tool! 

On the 7th of March I ran 1 mile in 9 minutes 54 seconds. I was on a treadmill and I finished a 2.6 k run in 16 minutes 34 seconds.

I’ve done a couple of other treadmill training sessions that I’ve not tracked, but I’ve been finding the weather (snow, rain, freezing conditions) a bit of a bastard when it comes to getting up at 5.50am to get to the gym before work!

On the 18th I went out for a run with my boything. He’s a) much better and faster at running than I am (he did a 1/2 marathon in February in about 1 hour 45) and b) not very patient, so it could have all gone terribly wrong! But, we did 3.8k in 28 minutes and 38 seconds without having any arguments and I was actually grateful for him pushing me a bit!

I was in AGONY the next day. All other runs I’ve done before where slower, more stopping and did NOT make me hurt the next day! I’m putting it down to being out of practice!

On the 21st of March I ran 1k in 5 minutes 42 seconds, which according to my Nike+ app, is my quickest so far… if I can get up to a standard of 5 minutes per kilometer, I’ll be AMAZED and be extremely proud of myself!! 

In addition to the fact that I did my quickest 1k, I ran 4km in 25 minutes and 45 seconds! So already, I can see an improvement! And I didn’t have boything there to drag me along encourage me to keep going when I wanted to walk! 

I’m hoping that within the next couple of weeks I can run 5k without any stops and I’ll start to actually lose some weight. All this snow and cold is causing me to still be in ‘winter’ mode… this means eating A LOT and mostly carbs and comfort food!! *bad*.

My mum announced earlier in the month that she is getting married in August *feels all gooey about the olds FINALLY tying the knot after 26 years* and she wants my sister and I to be ‘bridesmaids’. This basically means that I have to get my body in top shape by August! My sister has started doing something called ‘The 30 day shred’. It sounds like hell, but if she gets good results, I’m going to do it after she’s finished. That way, we will both be lovely, lean, beauts for Mum and Phil’s big day! 

Onwards and upwards!

January “Yeah, I’m going to get fit! Look at me running, doing loads of boxercise classes and going to the gym before work! Witness the fitness! Smuggy smug face! Blah blah blah!”

 

February “Eat too much cake. One trip to the gym =£30 (monthly membership). Drink a vat of gin. Gain 4lbs”

 

March “Register for 10k run in May. Get back on the fitness wagon! Use gym membership!”

 

Basically, I had a February FAIL. After a whole month of impressing even myself with my regime, it wall went out of the window on the 1st of February! I watched Boything and some friends run the Brighton Half Marathon, on the 17th and that was about as energetic as it got! I have resolved to pull it back and now have to start training so that I can run 10k in 11 weeks! I can just about manage 2k on a treadmill at the moment, so I’ve got a way to go yet. But, it’s a start and should see me on my way to getting a bikini body in the event that we have a ‘summer’ this year!
